2011 Martin D-18 Authentic 1937.
This guitar is an example of how far Martin have gone to recreate the Golden Era Martins of the past. In every detail it has been painstakingly built, the result being a tremendous guitar with a deep, fat sound that has great character and resonance. Solid Honduran mahogany back and sides with an Adirondack Spruce top, solid mahogany neck with a lovely, fat radius and forward shifted scalloped bracing. It's all there and it’s glorious.
These earlier incarnations of the D-18 Authentic are more sought after than the newer VTS iterations, as purists feel they’re more similar to their namesake in build and tone and who are we to question that. It’s a stunning sounding box and it has opened up beautifully.
It’s in fantastic condition for it’s 15 years on the planet, with only a few small dings here and there noticed when caught in the right light and some slight lacquer wear at two points on the binding. There’s also a couple of short lines of lacquer checking around the end pin. All nitpicking really as it’s clearly been well kept and cared for over the years.
It travels in it’s luxury Martin licensed Harptone 545V hard case.
